Vitamins & Minerals

Ampak has been selling specialty nutritional ingredients to the Nutritional and Dietary Supplement Industry for many years, it is where we started the business over 35 years ago.  We presently carry a wide range of vitamins and minerals, but the products listed below are the most strategic ones that we are presently importing and selling in significant quantities.

Vitamins

Vitamin B3 – Niacin/Niacinamide – one of the eight B vitamins, which helps to convert food into fuel which is used to produce energy. It also has a wide array of other functions in the body including lowering LDL cholesterol and blood pressure, improving circulation, treating headaches, dizziness, and diarrhea, and combating age-related loss of cognitive skills.

Vitamin B9 – Folic Acid - Folic acid helps the body make healthy new cells and everyone needs it. It aids in the production of DNA and RNA, the body's genetic material. However, for women who may get pregnant, it is really important. When a woman has enough folic acid in her body before and during pregnancy, it can prevent major birth defects of the baby's brain or spine.  Folic acid is also crucial for proper brain function and plays an important role in both mental and emotional health. Folic acid also works closely with vitamin B12 to help make red blood cells and iron work properly in the body

Vitamin B12 – Cobalamins – Vitamin B12 is an essential nutrient that has some very critical functions in the human body including energy production, DNA replication and tissue growth, normal functioning of the nervous system, promotes hormonal efficiency and a healthy endocrine system, and helps to lower the level of homocysteine in the body, which is associated with many degenerative diseases and symptoms.

Vitamin C – Ascorbic Acid/Ascorbates – Vitamin C is an essential nutrient that has some very critical functions in the human body including promoting a healthy immune system, anti-allergic functions, helps wounds heal, maintains and hold together connective tissues, aids in the absorption of iron, helps with teeth and gum health, and plays a key role in eye health by reducing oxidative stress.

Vitamin E - Alpha-Tocopherol - Alpha tocopherol and other vitamin E substances are antioxidants, which help the body fight off free radicals and help to prevent a wide range of degenerative conditions like cancer, heart disease, cataracts, glaucoma, and Parkinson’s disease to name but a few.  Vitamin E is widely used as an inexpensive antioxidant in cosmetics and foods. Vitamin E containing products are commonly used in the belief that vitamin E is good for the skin and alpha tocopherol is used as a natural preservative in foods.

Minerals

Minerals are important for humans to stay healthy because your body uses minerals for many different jobs including building bones, making hormones and regulating your heartbeat. There are two kinds of minerals: macrominerals and trace minerals. Macrominerals are minerals that your body needs in larger amounts and can typically get them from various sources. They include calcium, chloride, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, and sulfur. For the trace minerals, your body needs them in very small amounts. These trace minerals include cobalt, copper, fluoride, iodine, iron, manganese, selenium, and zinc. A few of these are not easily available in our diets from food so they are used in certain staples that we ingest to assure that we get enough of them in our diet (fluoride in water and iodine in salt).

Ampak has very strong supply positions in several mineral ingredients including:

Calcium – Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body and is found in many foods, added to others, and available as a dietary supplement, and is also present as a functional ingredient in some medicines such as pressed tablets and antacids.  Calcium is required for vascular contraction and vasodilation, muscle function, nerve transmission, intracellular signaling and hormonal secretion, though less than 1% of total body calcium is needed to support these critical metabolic functions. The rest is stored in the bones and teeth where it supports their structure and proper function.

There are many different forms of calcium that can be used when formulating a product, depending on the functionality and calcium dosage that you are looking for.

Iron – Iron is essential to normal human physiology and is an integral part of many proteins and enzymes that maintain good health. Iron is a component of proteins involved with oxygen transport and it is also essential for the regulation of cell growth and differentiation. A deficiency in iron results in poor oxygen delivery to the cells, which causes fatigue and decreased immunity.

Magnesium – Magnesium is a key mineral in human metabolism and is found in relatively small  to medium amounts in many different foods. Magnesium hasn’t gotten the focus that other nutrients like calcium or sodium have, but it plays a very important a role in human health. In fact, magnesium is necessary for more than 300 chemical reactions in the human body including helping to maintain normal muscle and nerve function, maintaining heart rhythm, supporting a properly functioning immune system, and keeping bones healthy and strong. Magnesium also helps regulate blood sugar levels, promotes normal blood pressure, and is known to be involved in energy metabolism and protein synthesis.

Ampak carries several different forms of magnesium including magnesium gluconate, magnesium oxide, and magnesium stearate, to name but a few.

Sodium - Sodium maintains the body’s fluid and electrolyte balance and it’s acid-base balance, and also controls muscle contractions and nerve transmission. There is no established RDA for sodium because the human diet has never lacked it; quite the opposite actually because most of the sodium that humans consume comes from packaged, processed, store-bought, and restaurants foods. Only a small amount comes from salt added during cooking and from being added at the table, and most Americans have already exceeded their daily limit of sodium before cooking or adding salt at the table. An adequate amount of sodium for adults is between 250 and 500 mg/day. The Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) for healthy adults is 2300 mg/day. The 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends an upper limit of 1500 mg/day for people over 50 and 1200 mg/day for those over 70. The average American adult consumes 4000 mg/day.

Ampak carries several different forms of sodium including sodium ascorbate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium benzoate, sodium citrate, sodium iodide, and sodium phosphate to name but a few.
